WWU Men's Golf No. 18 in Preseason NAIA Coaches' Poll
KANSAS CITY -- The William Woods University men's golf team was ranked 18th in the 2012-13 NAIA Men's Golf Coaches' Preseason Poll, release on Friday by the NAIA National Office. The Owls earned 214 total points in the balloting, ranking two spots below their debut in the 2011-12 coaches' poll.
Julian Taylor won two individual titles on the fall season, leading WWU to the team title at the 2012 Missouri Intercollegiate Invitational. Taylor will be joined in the spring by junior Andrew Davis, sophomore Cruz Buchanan and freshman Marty Sanchez as the Owls look to return to the NAIA National Championsip for the second straight year and the fourth time in the past five seasons.
Texas Wesleyan earned 13 first-place votes and 494 total points en route to the no. 1 ranking in the coaches' poll, with defending champions Oklahoma City University ranked no. 2 in the poll with 479 points and four first-place votes. Cal State San Marcos (458) and Cumberlands (444) claimed the fourth and fifth spots in the poll, with Bellevue University claiming fifth with 438 points and the final first-place vote.
William Woods will announce its spring schedule in January.
