COLUMBIA - Swimmers of all ages and sizes came to the Mizzou Aquatic Center Saturday morning for the St. Louis YMCA District Swim Championship. The meet was hosted by the Jefferson City Area YMCA and the Hannibal Hurricanes Swim Team.

Almost 1,000 swimmers competed in the third fastest pool in the nation. Teams from Jefferson City, St. Louis, St. Charles, and more traveled to Columbia for the meet. All female events were in the West pool and male events were in the East pool.

Doug Schranck, a spectator and former Carthage College swimmer, said being at the meet brought back good memories of hard work and accomplishment. Schranck's younger sister competed at the meet.

Schrank said, "It's always fun to remember it and re-live it. Just looking up and seeing your best time on the board."

The swimmers raced on Saturday to qualify for finals, which will be held Sunday, March 4. Once at finals, the race is on to qualify for the YMCA State meet in two weeks.
