Lockheed-Martin, one of the world's largest aerospace companies, plans layoffs for hundreds of its workers in Texas, Georgia and California. The move comes as the company tries to cut costs. 540 workers are affected by the layoffs.
The highly anticipated new plane of one of Lockheed-Martin's biggest competitors -- and one of Missouri's largest employers -- took flight Tuesday morning. Boeing's 787 Dreamliner left Washington on its maiden voyage to Tokyo. The company currently has 800 orders and expects the $150 million aircraft to begin commercial flights in November. Boeing data shows the company employs more than 15,000 people in Missouri.
