Arrest made in connection with I-70 shooting
COLUMBIA - The Columbia Police Department made an arrest in connection with a shooting on I-70 just east of Stadium Boulevard Monday night.
18-year-old Demetrius L. Shaw of Columbia was charged with two counts of first-degree assault, one count of endangering the welfare of a child in the second-degree, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.
Police said Shaw fired shots from his car into another while heading eastbound on I-70 just before 9 P.M. Monday night, hitting an adult and child. Both were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
UPDATE - KOMU 8 News reached out to numerous people who live on Shaw's street in north Columbia. Neighbors said they did not know about Shaw's criminal history or that he lives down the street.
Shaw was charged as an adult in 2017 after a shooting left a 17-year-old with serious injuries.
One neighbor said there is only one streetlight on the street. He said he thinks if they had more lights, people would feel more safe and less crime would go on.
CPD said it believes the two parties involved knew each other and it was not an accidental shooting.
I-70 Drive was closed between Spencer Avenue and Beverly Drive. The I-70 eastbound driving lane east of Stadium Boulevard was closed as well.
Columbia Police Department said the investigation is ongoing.
