JEFFERSON CITY - A Jefferson City boy turned 18 Wednesday and spent the day working a blood drive to benefit his little brother who has leukemia.

Hayden Lee could have spent his birthday several ways, but he chose to be with his aunt, cousins and friends working a blood drive. Hayden's brother, Hudsen, has leukemia and Hayden said Hudsen needs a lot of blood to be able to do what he wants every day.

"He was rollerskating all the time. He likes to hunt and fish. Every chance he gets, he goes out fishing with grandpa or my uncle or me if I'm out with my buddies," Hayden said.

Hayden said his brother has become more popular around town and Hayden sees the "Team Hud" shirts around all the time. He said like anyone, he just wants his brother to get better.

"He's a goofball and a fun time to be around," Hayden said.

Hudson and the boys' mom were at MU Children's Hospital for Hudsen's chemotherapy Wednesday so they couldn't make it to the drive. Hayden said they would be there until Saturday or Sunday.

As far as the leukemia goes, Hayden said, "We just want to get it over with so we can go on and live normal lives."

Hayden added that the family found out Hayden's stepbrother had a malignant brain tumor only one week before Hudsen was diagnosed with leukemia.

The drive was at Capital Mall in Jefferson City.
