JEFFERSON CITY - The construction planned for the Dix Road overpass in Jefferson City has one local business looking for new strategies.

The Missouri Department of Transportation announced last week improvements had been scheduled for Wednesday after a delay. A full road closure is set to begin in October.

Magical Smiles Family Dentistry is located on Dix Road right off the westbound US 50 exit ramp. Office manager Roz Harman said the construction will cause some difficulty for patients.

"They're going to be able to get here, but leaving is going to be an obstacle," she said. "We'll have to give them alternate routes to take as needed until it's reopened."

According to MODOT, crews will be working on improvements to the road's surface, bridge, traffic signals and sidewalks. Work will take place both during the day and overnight. Some overnight work will require single lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

All ramps onto or off US 50 will remain open during the construction. Yet, Harman said her office's proximity to the highway means that patients will have difficulty getting there no matter what direction they're coming from.

"Highway 50 is right there, so no matter what, they come in from Highway 50," she said.

MODOT said complete closure of the bridge will take place October 7, and would last around two weeks.

The construction project is set to be completed by November 1.
