COLUMBIA - Centerpointe Hospital is opening a new location on International Drive in Columbia.

The Tennessee-based company has one Missouri location in St. Charles, but decided it was time to bring its services to the middle of the state.

Sheila Hunt, Regional Director of Business Development said the project is well ahead of schedule.

"This whole project started in 2016," Hunt said. "We are a few months ahead of schedule which is very surreal. There are 72 beds at this location and 150 in St. Charles."

The facility is very modern and, more importantly, safe.

"We have really modern safety features here," Hunt said. "From our electrical systems, rooms, plumbing, you name it."

Something unique about the new facility is the flooring. The patient care area has hard wood flooring, and Chief Executive Officer Buddy Turner said it's all about making patients feel at home.

"It needs to be a home-like setting," Turner said. "We also put multipurpose floors in so that we can have a lot of outside events. It's really important for us to reach out to the community and have them here at our facility."

Turner also has seen results when patients feel more at home.

"It relaxes the patients," Turner said. "We think patients receive care better in a setting where they feel safe and also comfortable and I think that's a big part of the treatment regime."

Centerpointe Hospital is expected to begin taking and caring for patients in the next couple of weeks.

"We're really excited to be in Columbia and excited to get our new facility open," Turner said. "We're really happy a lot of people get to see it."

The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. Gov. Mike Parson and Mayor Brian Treece will be in attendance.
