Church Creates Extreme Home Makeover
COLUMBIA - Columbia's Fairview Road Church of Christ started construction Monday to rennovate one house in the community.
The church is partnered with the Boone County Council on Aging to provide improved housing for some of the city's elderly. The church's pastor, Brian Hajicek, said the church started the Extreme Home Makeover project as an extension of smaller projects the church already had with the council. Hajicek said for years the church and council worked to meet small needs like doing yardwork.
In order for the partners to consider someone for the project, the applicant must be a senior citizen with a lower income. Once the applicant submits his or her request, the Boone County Council on Aging will make a choice based on the applicants' needs. One house is chosen each year.
Robert Williams and his mother on Benton Street are the winners for this year's makeover. This is the third year where church and community volunteers have completely recreated a house. All of the workers, supporters, and the family can expect volunteers to finish the construction by Saturday.
