JEFFERSON CITY - On Saturday night Jefferson City police responded to a shooting at an after hours business. Club Motivation has gone through multiple names and owners and is considered a problematic business.
A Jefferson City ordinance proposal will force after hours business owners, like Club Motivation, to lose their license if they do not comply with safety measures. The proposal is designed to target businesses open from 1:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. Jefferson City interim city counselor Drew Hilpert proposed the ordinance to the Public Safety Committee earlier this month.
The business license will be revocated if the owners and employees fail to comply with the following:
- All requirements of a facility fire code
- Immediate consent to fire inspection
- Report to police about alcohol or drugs on premises
- Permanent lighting outside their businesses
"If someone violates those they might get a summons to go to court or something along those lines. What we wanted to do is tie those protective measures to the business license itself," Hilpert said.
The proposal will be presented to City Council members on February 20th.
