Columbia meter labels don\'t show new times

COLUMBIA - Despite new parking meter times, there's not much notice in downtown Columbia.

As of January 2, the new enforcement hours are from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The hours used to be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Columbia Public Works Public Information Specialist Steven Sapp told KOMU 8 News that meter enforcers would pass out fliers indicating the new times at the start of the new year. He also said informational stickers would be attached to meters.

Columbia resident Pam Cooper said while she feels the city should update the stickers, she'd be surprised if people don't know the new hours by now.

"My sense is that if people don't get it from the news, they may get it from word of mouth," Cooper said. "Social media is playing a greater and greater role. I guess they could get it from their friends."

Motorists who park downtown can find the new hours of regulation on the City of Columbia's website. City parking garage hours remain the same, and are still free on weekends.
