COLUMBIA - About 20 residents gave their input Tuesday night about "Columbia Imagined," the city's comprehensive plan for future development.

City staff worked with the Planning and Zoning Commission as well as the Comprehensive Plan Task Force to formulate the proposal. The comprehensive plan is in the fifth of six phases, which aims to gather public input before officials prepare it for approval by the Planning and Zoning Commission and eventually the Columbia City Council.

Steve MacIntyre is one of the lead planners for Columbia Imagined, and he said much of his focus involves future land use. He said the city's future growth in land use will rely heavily on its economic development. "If we're going to grow, we really need to focus on our industrial and economic growth as a driver of growing our limits," MacIntyre said.

Development Services Manager Pat Zenner said he and the planning staff will present the comprehensive plan to the public again Wednesday evening. The group will present Columbia Imagined to the Planning and Zoning Commission June 6, before addressing the city council later next month.
