Columbia Proposes 2012 Budget
COLUMBIA - City Manager Mike Matthes presented his 2012 city budget proposal to the City Council on Friday.
Under the proposal, city revenue would increase 9.76% from 2011. City expenditures would decrease 2.6%.
Matthes contributes the revenue increase to an increase in sales tax collection. He said that tax revenue has been on the rise after dropping during the recession in 2008.
The council will then have a series of meetings with each other and the public to debate whether the proposal should be passed. The city will hold those public hearings on August 15, September 5, and September 19. The council will then vote on the budget before the new fiscal year begins October 1.
