Cougar Volleyball Advances To AMC Semifinals
COLUMBIA -- The Columbia Cougar volleyball team moved into the semifinal round of the American Midwest Conference (AMC) postseason tournament Tuesday night, defeating Benedictine University-Springfield in the quarterfinals by scores of 25-10, 25-13 and 25-10. Columbia is the top-seed in the eight-team playoff. Benedictine-Springfield entered tonight's match as the eighth seed.
The Cougars, who are ranked No. 3 in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll released Tuesday, are now 35-2 on the season. Tuesday night's loss end's the Bulldogs season at 10-30.
Senior Vesna Trivunovic led the charge for Columbia with 10 kills in 16 attempts. Nicole Murphy had seven blocks and Kelly Corkum had four while Paula Ferreira and Chelsea Browner combined for 37 assists.
The Cougars will play fifth-seeded William Woods University at 7 p.m. in the semifinal round of the AMC tournament on Thursday, Nov. 10 in the Arena of Southwell Complex. The winners of the Thursday's semifinal matches will square off in the AMC title match on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 1 p.m. at the home of the highest remaining seed.
