COLUMBIA - Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,000 reward to anyone who has information about recent shootings in Columbia and Boone County.

The person who provides the tip would receive the reward money in cash right away as long as an arrest is made from the tip.

The $2,000 reward is the organization's largest offer in 33 years.

The organization said it normally pays in the hundreds of dollars range, but since the incidents are so serious and frequent, it's offering a larger amount.

President of the Crime Stoppers Board of Directors Bill Costello said anyone who calls the tip line is guaranteed absolute anonymity for his or her tip.

"We're hopeful that someone will take us up on the offer for this no-questions-asked cash payout. These are criminals we need to get off the streets. And at the end of the day, we're willing to pay a larger reward if that's what it takes," Costello said.

The tip number is 573-875-TIPS (8477).

"This is easy money for any person who knows who these shooters are. And we know for certain that someone knows who they are," Costello said.

Crime Stoppers is a combined effort from private citizens, the media and law enforcement.
