COLUMBIA - Mid-Missouri's first diverging diamond interchange opened early Monday morning.

It took seven months of construction to complete. The $12.8 million project was funded by the Missouri Department of Transportation, the City of Columbia and a few other transportation transportation development districts.

They decided it was time to reconstruct the road because of slow traffic, long waiting time and congestion. Previous diamonds have  noticed traffic moving quicker and safer.

Other diamonds reported having 50 percent less car accidents because cars are less stop and go traffic, which minimizes rear end accidents. Car back ups are expected to be a thing of the past because other diamonds did not see having any back ups.
