COLUMBIA - The Office of Emergency Management is one of hundreds of agencies participating in this week's National Level Exercise. Missouri is one of eight states to review emergency procedures and reaction responses for large magnitude earthquakes.

This week, agencies are participating in drills to test response methods. They're also mapping out decisions and practicing interactions with each other. Federal, state, and local governments are participating as well as the State Emergency Management Agency.

According to the Office of Emergency Management, the probability of a magnitude 6.0 or greater quake is a possibility in the near future. It says there's a 90 percent chance by the year 2040.

This week's exercise is being held in conjunction with the bicentennial of the New Madrid earthquake of 1811. That quake ranked greater than an 8.0 on the richter scale and caused widespread damage to the state.
