JEFFERSON CITY - A Cole County judge issued an injunction on what is known as the "Facebook Law." It would have gone into effect next week and prevented exclusive or private conversations between teachers and students.
Judge Beetem said many Missouri teachers use social media as a primary form of communicating with parents and students.
Judge Beetem said the law "clearly prohibits communication between family members and their teacher parents using these types of sites. The Court finds that the statue would have a chilling effect on speech."
The Missouri State Teachers Association filed a lawsuit against the law earlier in the week.
The injunction will be effective for 180 days and will expire February 20, 2012. It will allow for a trial before the statute is implemented.
