Fire breaks out at wood product facility in Columbia

BOONE COUNTY - Boone County Fire Department responded to a call from someone driving by the Chigger Creek Wood Product facility on South Rangeline Road at 12:45 Tuesday morning.

The driver said that the left side of the building was in flames.

Firefighters were out at the site of the fire five minutes later and put out the flames.

Chigger Creek makes wood chips for grilling.

Martina Pounds, Boone County Fire Protection District Captain, said they are not aware of why the fire started at this time.

"There's some heat to these basins that these chips are in, so I am not really sure yet what caused it, we're investigating it right now."

The owners of Chigger Creek have not yet responded to calls about the fire.
