FULTON - The city of Fulton is closer to meeting its initial fundraising goal set to build a new animal shelter. According to Fulton Public Information Officer Darin Wernig, the current animal shelter in use was a temporary location that was not intended to be the site of the shelter long term.

"Between cash on hand and pledges made, we have approximately $190,000 that have been raised for the new animal shelter which is great," Wernig said. "It looks like now we are going to get this thing built within the next year."

The city's aims to raise a total of $250,000.

The city held a Mayor's Cup golf tournament this summer, which raised about $8,000.

Wernig said the goal is to get the construction started by next spring, and the city is still accepting donations to go toward the project.
