Games 10-5, MU v. KU, Top 10
COLUMBIA -- Saturday figures to feature another Missouri - Kansas classic. The rivalry dates back to 1907 on the basketball court, and that's right where we begin, with game ten. This Tiger team won the first ever meeting with Kansas coached by James Naismith. Final score, 34-31.
Game number nine happened in 2002. It came down to the end, and the Tigers led with less than two minutes to go in the game, but the Tigers came up short 95-92.
Game number eight was played in 1998...unranked Mizzou went shot-for-shot with 3rd ranked Kansas. John Woods got a game saving steal in the final seconds, and the Tigers won 74-73.
For game number seven, we go back to 1990. It was the first top 5 matchup ever between these teams.
"That was one of the better teams we had here at the University of Missouri," said Todd Donoho of Tiger Radio Network.
"And a steal by Buntin...off to Smith...over to coward and back to Buntin...scores and is fouled.
4th ranked Missouri beat top ranked kansas 95-87.
Game number six on the list was the 1961 brawl game.
"That kind of typified how much those teams didn't like each other," said Donoho.
"There was talk that the rivalry was so ferocious that they should not play in basketball after that. Well they were members of the same conference, how can you not play?!"
Missouri won the brawl and the game, 79-76.
