Habitat for Humanity to Dedicate "Home for the Holidays"
JEFFERSON CITY - Habitat for Humanity will dedicate a "Home for the Holidays" house on Vista Road Friday evening. The River City chapter located in Jefferson City has completed the program for about 10 years. It provides a home for a low-income family to move into in time for Christmas day.
Kelly Smith, the chapter's executive director, said the Cook family is set to close on the home at 5:30 p.m. There will also be an open house from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Smith said families who purchase Habitat homes are required to provide 350 hours of "sweat equity" where they contribute labor toward building their future home.
The Cook family has completed more than 600 hours to their home and other Habitat projects. The River City chapter has also started it's 80th Habitat for Humanity home.
