HALLSVILLE - The Hallsville City Council interviewed two candidates for the position of Chief of Police, but the mayor, Logan Carter, refused to give KOMU 8 News an updated on the status of the search after a closed-door meeting.

City officials interviewed candidates after the city council's meeting Monday to discuss the city's tax levy.

Carter told KOMU 8 News there's been a difficulty in finding quality applicants for the position, but he's confident the two candidates are qualified and would serve the community well.

One of the candidates is the interim police chief. Carter would not identify who the second candidate is.

"The biggest thing I think would be community policing. Just getting out and having a feel for the community, knowing when a ticket might be a necessary warning could be suffice," Carter said.

A KOMU 8 reporter who stayed through the entire closed-door meeting asked two city council members and the mayor if they reached a decision or had any update for the public. They claimed they are not allowed to give an update, but did not cite a specific reason why.
