COLUMBIA - To make room for the new 21,000 square foot H&M store moving into the Columbia Mall in the fall of 2014, three stores closed and several others moved to other spots in the mall.

H&M is a clothing store that caters to all types of shoppers: women, men, teenagers and children.  This fall, H&M will open on the corner of the Sears wing of the mall.

Hallmark, Things Remembered and Kitchen Collection are not in the Columbia Mall anymore.  Deck The Walls, PacSun, Hot Topic and Icing moved within the mall to create more space.  American Eagle combined it's Aerie store to minimize space and Christopher & Banks merged with CJ Banks to save store space for H&M.

One Columbia Mall shopper said that although the other stores' departures are unfortunate, she is excited for H&M's opening.

"I will travel to Kansas City and I will go to the H&M at the plaza, just so that I can go," Columbia resident Sue Fowler said.  "So, I'm very excited that it's coming to Columbia."

Columbia Chamber of Commerce said the changes at the mall mean more national interest in Columbia.

"It's a tell-tale sign of a lot of good things that are going on in Columbia," Chamber of Commerce President Matt McCormick said. "It's a great store and has a very good following especially with the young crowd and Columbia being a very young city, it has a very good following from different folks, so we're excited to see it."

H&M is set to open fall of 2014 at the Columbia Mall.  Unrelated changes to mall stores include Villa Pizza's replacement of Sbarro, the addition of a new store called Cardinal Clubhouse and Auntie Anne's takeover of Lollicup's previously owned space.
