I-70 off-ramp at Business Loop closes for construction

COLUMBIA – The Columbia I-70 Bridges Project continues this week and is causing the eastbound off-ramp at Business Loop 70 West to close for the next 10 days.

The off-ramp will close so workers can widen it, beginning at 7 a.m. Monday. The interstate will be rerouted down this exit ramp while the bridge is replaced, so it will need to hold two lanes of traffic.

MoDOT advises drivers to use city streets to get around the closures.

Danny Roeger, construction inspector, said this ramp’s closure will increase traffic on the ramps at Stadium Boulevard, Providence Road and Range Line Street because they are the best alternatives to the Business Loop West exit.

Roeger said businesses near the closed exit ramp will be harder to access.

“We just appreciate everyone’s patience with us,” Roeger said. “In about a week and a half it will be back open.”

The bridges project includes the bridges over Business Loop 70 West, Garth Avenue and Range Line Street.

Roeger said the conditions of the bridges “were very deteriorated. While they were still safe, they just weren’t maintainable.”

The project in the Business Loop 70 area includes building a new bridge, constructing two dual-lane roundabouts on the north and south sides of the highway, improving access to I-70 Drive Southwest and decreasing traffic delays on Creasy Springs Road.

Creasy Springs Road will close for 15 days starting at 7 a.m. Thursday.
