COLUMBIA - A car collided with 18-year-old cyclist Jacob Vincent on Sunday, as he attempted to cross the intersection at Rock Quarry Road and Grindstone Parkway.
“I’m just grateful to be alive,” Vincent said.
He said he only can recall flashes of what happened.
“One moment you’re awake, the next moment you’re just out on the ground and you’re trying to recollect everything that’s happened.”
Vincent suffered no serious injuries and only has a few minor scrapes and bruises on his left hand, waist and hips. The bandaged up gashes on his knees and lower calf muscles, however tell a different story.
“It hurts,” he said. My head is pretty banged up; my knees are scraped. My elbows and my hands are all dirtied up.”
Vincent’s doctors stated he was doing “exceptionally well,” considering the type of accident he was involved in. Vincent was released from University of Missouri Hospital around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, six hours after the collision.
“I remember the woman who hit me, crying her eyes out, hysterically,” said Vincent. “Apparently my mom said, I was more focused on her crying, than I was focused on myself.”
Vincent said he doesn't plan to press charges against the woman who hit him and said he’s thankful to not have had any other substantial injuries.
