JEFFERSON CITY - Jefferson City Chamber of Commerce members, local business owners and county officials gathered for a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday on behalf of Cole County Public Works to commemorate the completion of the Business 50 West Improvements Project.

Cole County Engineer Eric Landwehr said the whole face of the area has changed since Cole County Public Works performed the improvements.

"Now we have pedestrian access through the area," Landwehr said. "If you're driving through the area you notice it's much cleaner too."

The ceremony took place at the Beacon Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Thursday.

The county made improvements to storm water drains, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and pavement.

The entire project was split up into three phases. Phase one included Enterprise Drive, phase two included the stretch between Enterprise to Pioneer Trail Drive, and phase 3 encompassed the area between Pioneer Trail to Babe Ruth Drive.
