Linn Creek Fire Follow-up
LINN CREEK - Investigators said Friday an electrical fault caused the Thursday fire that brought 18 fire crews from mid-Missouri to the Woodland Scenics warehouse in Linn Creek.
Osage Beach Fire Chief Jeff Dorhauer said, "There was an exhaust motor on the building where the motor either shorted out or froze out but created heat to start the fire." Investigators may not be able to determine whether it was an electrical short or overheating that caused the fire.
Police Chief Trevor Dowdney said things could have been much worse with the propane tanks located close to the warehouse. "We've got several thousand gallons on one side and even the house behind me has 250 gallons. If the wind had changed directions significantly, that would've taken that house out as well," Dowdney said.
Woodland Scenics employs about 150 people and manufactures scenery pieces for model railroads. It's located directly in the center of the 250-person town and employees a good amount of Linn Creek residents.
"Well my heart goes out to all of them you know theyre probably gonna have some financial difficulties," neighbor Debbie Mccain said.
The managers of Woodland Scenics refused to speak with KOMU 8 News, but employees said there are plans to rebuild.
