Maries County R-2
BELLE - Students from the Maries County R-2 Middle School may see as many as four teachers leave their middle school next school year.
Samantha White, who just started her first year as the middle school's principal, said she has talked to each of the four teachers several times. She sent out notice based on evaluations to the four teachers and recommended the school board not to renew the contracts with the teachers next school year.
One of the four resigned Thursday morning. Superintendent Gary Doerhoff said he received feedback from many parents and students from the school district who told him they support some of the teachers and feel upset about what White did.
Some parents allege that there is a conflict between the principal and the teachers. But White said being a good teacher is more than just having a nice personality.
"When you look at the big picture of things, there are several things you have to look at," White said. "You have to look at classroom management, instructional process, how well they get along with their peers, how well they do their job, and are the students learning?"
The school board held a closed meeting Thursday night to go through the evaluations and discuss recommendations for the future of the four teachers. Doerhoff said the decision should be made after Thursday night's meeting.
