Mid-Missouri Boy Scout Council Set to Vote on National Resolution
COLUMBIA - Boy Scouts in mid-Missouri are preparing for the national vote Thursday. The Great Rivers Council is set to vote at noon on their councils opinion of the national membership standards.
The national proposal says the scouts cannot deny membership to a youth based on his sexual orientation.
"The proposal reinforces the scouting values: duty to god, duty to one's country, duty to others and duty to oneself," sai Doug Callahan, scout executive.
280 councils across the country will vote next Thursday in Dallas, Texas for the national resolution approval.
The Great Rivers Council will have a total of three votes based on membership at the national council. Callahan said their council will vote at the national council based upon the vote Thursday of the volunteers in the area. Callahan said the votes will reflect the views of the members and if there is a split vote the three votes at the national council will be 2-1, either way the vote swings.
