Missouri Job Center's Walk-In Wednesday
COLUMBIA - Job seekers have a way to find a new career Wednesday.
The Missouri Job Center will host it's Walk-In Wednesday event. The event is designed to have job seekers sit face-to-face with employers looking to fill openings. Lisa Marshall, a State Supervisor with the Missouri Job Center, said the demand for the event has been growing among employers.
"There’s a lot of need right now, a lot of employers are telling us they need to hire for open positions," she said.
Marshall said that this situation gives job seekers a better grasp of their opportunities.
"This type of event gives them the chance to come in and explore what’s out there," she said.
According to Michael Rettke, a Functional Leader with the Missouri Job Center, it’s very important to help connect both employers and job seekers at events like these.
“Employers have positions they need filled and job seekers ideally are looking for a career," he said.
Rettke also said the event has grown dramatically from it’s conception. The center has increased the number of job seekers from 10 to over 30.
Kim Ashcraft, Human Resources Generalist with Gates, said she loves being able to see a person rather than just a resume.
“I really like that face-to face interview and meeting them for the first time, which can tell a lot about a person," Ashcraft said.
Ashcraft also said the company hopes to attract a certain type of employee at the event.
“This is more geared towards helping veterans get back to work or find jobs who may be new to the community,” Ashcraft said.
To participate in the event you will need to bring your photo ID and a resume. Marshall also said to increase your chances, you'll want to dress up and be prepared to talk about your strengths.
“You’d be surprised, sometimes the employer knows they need three positions and you come and you tell them about what your abilities are, and they may find that they need you,” Marshall said.
The Walk-In Wednesday will be held at the Missouri Job Center from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
