JEFFERSON CITY - Missouri Valley Big Brothers, Big Sisters is changing its name and rebranding its mission.

Lee Knernschield, program director for Missouri Valley Big Brothers, Big Sisters, said the name change and rebranding will help better serve volunteers and the children that apply to be accepted into the organization.

"Our agency serves Cole County and the Jefferson City area," Knernschield said. "We wanted a name that represented our location better for individuals trying to locate us, as well as show where we are located in the state of Missouri."

Knernschield is also a mentor for a young man, named Liam Jones, in the program and hopes that more people will sign up to volunteer as a mentor with the rebranding.

"That friend and that person that he can share information about his life, he can, but just so he knows that he's got someone there that's just kind of helping with supporting him along with his father," Knernschield said.

Jones's father said this organization has been nothing but a positive experience for his three children.

"Every time they visit and I pick them up from school, they say their mentor was their for them today," Scott Jones said. "They can kind of get away for a minute and share some good times."

The announcement of the name change and rebranding will be Thursday afternoon at Lewis and Clark Middle School.
