MoDot preparing to hire for winter season

JEFFERSON CITY - The Missouri Department of Transportation has begun its preparations for the winter season. Near the top of the list of preparations is hiring more staff.

The department is currently accepting applications for seasonal positions starting in the winter. Assistant District Engineer Travis Koestner said the positions are either six-month seasonal positions, or emergency roles in case a big storm hits.

"When the wintertime hits, there's a lot of situations where we have to operate 24/7. So when you have to operate 24/7, you have to have enough staff so we can fully utilize the equipment," Koestner said.

All applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and a valid driver's license in order to be considered. If hired, employees have to go through safety training and training to use the trucks and plows.
