MU Baseball 4/15
COLUMBIA - The Missouri baseball team fell in the series opener to Kansas on Friday night 8-3, falling to 13-21 on the season and 1-8 in Big 12 play. The Tigers had a rought night on the mound but Eric Garcia and Brannon Champagne were able to extended their hitting streaking to five games.
Freshman pitcher Rob Zastryzny received the loss after allowing seven hits and six earned runs in 5.1 innings. Mizzou gave the Jayhawks a run in the eighth and ninth innings but were unable to come back. The Jayhawks scored in five straight innings, including two homeruns.
Garcia led the Tigers are the plate with a run scored and an RBI, going 2-5 on the night. Champagne hit a single and Scott Sommerfeld went 2-4 in the game. Ben Turner and Jesse Santo each scored a run and Blake Brown and Conner Mach added RBIs in the game. The Tigers were able to get 11 hits in the loss but struggled when runners were in scoring position, stranding 11 men on base.
Mizzou and Kansas will resume the series Saturday at 4 p.m, at Taylor Stadium.
