COLUMBIA - The Worley Street Park Association met for the first time Thursday evening to discuss the future of their neighborhood's safety.
Neighbors and police officers gathered at Calvary Baptist Church to plan for neighborhood initiatives and programs. This is the first new association to hold a meeting of the six started under the PedNet Coalition's Unite 4 Healthy Neighborhoods Coalition. The old neighborhood associations disbanded several years ago.
Proposed ideas included more accessibility to public transportation in the area, as well as designated neighborhood watch divisions.
Eight police officers attended, (police are required at all meetings,) and topics varied from speeding hotspots to prostitution. Residents voiced their concerns for future safety and hope more meetings will occur in the near future.
