Neighbors looking for answers in Madison Park Drive burglary
COLUMBIA - Neighbors of a home near Chapel Hill Road and Forum Boulevard say police told them there was a break in Monday night.
The Columbia Police Department would only confirm officers were investigating an incident at 1809 Madison Park Drive.
KOMU 8 News got a tip Monday night about a heavy police presence in the area, with several CPD cars and forensic unit vans on the scene.
Tuesday, neighborhood resident Nick Hartz said police were canvassing the area.
"They asked if I had a camera on our home security system, and if I had picked up anything," Hartz said. "I guess they were trying to see whoever broke in, which is what they said, had tried to break into our house too."
Another neighbor three doors down, who preferred to be anonymous, said he spoke with police directly and they told him a burglary had taken place.
"I believe my neighbors were targeted," he said. "They have only lived here a short time, six months. I never met them, but I do think whoever broke in there knew that they wouldn't be home."
KOMU 8 News asked the Columbia Police Department for further comment and clarification. It said officers responded to two separate calls on Madison Park Drive Monday - one around noon for a past burglary and another later in the evening for what CPD called an ongoing investigation.
At this time it is unclear if the two are related.
The homeowners were contacted but declined to comment.
