new sports fieldhouse
COLUMBIA - Columbia Parks and Recreation allocated $3.7 million to build a sports complex at Philips Park in South Columbia. $2.7 million came from sales tax, and the other $1 million was from the Columbia Convention and Visitors Bureau Tourism and Development Fund.
The Parks and Recreation Department wants to hear from people who live in the community about what they want in the space on Bristol Lake Parkway. The department will hold the first of two drop-in meetings May 2 at 5 p.m. at the ARC (Activity & Recreation Center) in Columbia. The second meeting will be from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the same place May 10.
Plans for the sports fieldhouse include four indoor courts for basketball and volleyball with room for future expansion to double and even triple the size of the building as Columbia continues to grow.
Those plans will be on display at both meetings, and public officials will be there to take questions and comments.
