Police arrest teens after finding stolen items
JEFFERSON CITY - The Jefferson City Police Department was investigating Monday morning after it arrested two minors who were driving a car full of stolen items. The department received several reports of items stolen from cars Sunday night into Monday morning.
The department said an officer was investigating a call of a stalled vehicle at Missouri Boulevard and Virginia Street when he located alcohol inside the car. Upon further investigation, he found marijuana and a wallet that was reported stolen Sunday night. Other items inside the car were stolen from various vehicles throughout Jefferson City.
17-year-old Jared Hayes, left, and 18-year-old Charles Clemens, right, both from Jefferson City, were arrested and are being held at the Cole County Jail. Neither have been officially charged.
The department took ten reports of stolen items as of Monday morning. They said anyone who had items taken from their car should call the Jefferson City Police Department's non-emergency line at (573) 634-6400.
The department said all the vehicles that had items taken were unlocked. Items stolen include purses, wallets, ID cards, credit cards, tools, electronics, and ammunition. Police remind the public to remove valuables from their vehicles at night and lock their doors.
