Police Arrest Wanted Man in Jefferson City

JEFFERSON CITY - Police arrested a wanted man Thursday afternoon, after somone called police saying he had a gun in his front pocket. Police responded to the call at the intersection of McCarty Street and Missouri Boulevard near downtown Jefferson City at about 2 p.m.

About six officers surrounded 40-year-old Jeffery Allen Benney, a man wanted on suspicion of several crimes in Cole and Camden County, including child abuse and possession of Meth.

Benney tried to evade police before surrendering at approximately 2:15 p.m. Police say when he was arrested, police did not find a gun on him.

Jefferson City Police Captain Bob Cynova said police always respond in cases involving gun possession. No formal charges have been filed in this case.
