Sports Zone prepares for new customers due to bowl game.
COLUMBIA – The Tigers went bowling for the first time since 2015, and one local restaurant prepared for extra customers.
Sports Zone hosted a watch party for the Texas Bowl on December 27. Like the game, the party was in full swing at 8 p.m. Though the event started at 5, most of the customers did not show up until game time.
“We love Mizzou,” said manager Bianca Defreitas. “Anything Mizzou, we are in, and we have so many sports on constantly. We just love football, basketball, everything. So anytime there’s a big sporting event on we love to cover it.”
She said the restaurant hosted the event in hopes of bringing in new customers.
“We came up with some specials. We are going to do a wing buffet tonight, so that’s interesting. It’s got unlimited wings. It’s got about five different flavors and stuff like that,” she said.
Co-manager Simon Beeson said the Mizzou bowl game was something that meant a lot to him.
“I was born and raised here, and I’ve always kind of looked up to the football team,” he said. “I was at the first game where we finally beat Nebraska for the first time in 25 years, and like I said, it’s just a winning tradition that Coach Pinkel really built.”
Beeson said he believes hosting a watch party was important, because it meant a lot to the other Tiger fans in Columbia as well.
