Summerfest Moves in Midst of Downtown Business Pressure
COLUMBIA - The Blue Note will move Thursday night's "Summerfest" show to Park Avenue near Mojo's after the city council approved a downtown business owner to sell alcohol in front of his business. The Columbia City Council approved Tom Rippeto of Red and Moe Pizzeria to sell alcohol in front of his business during Summerfest. In response, Richard King moved the show from 9th Street to Park Avenue.
The Blue Note website states, "Due in part to the petition filed a few weeks ago and the actions of the city council, Summerfest featuring Big Smith has been moved to Forrest Rose Park at Mojo's"
Downtown business owners started a petition in June asking for the city to only approve Summerfest shows on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. It also asked for none of the shows to be during the school year. Thursday's show features the band Big Smith. Next Summerfest is scheduled to take place August 24th on 9th Street.
