Three Outdoor Public Pools To Open In Columbia
COLUMBIA - Columbia Parks and Recreation will open three of its outdoor pools today for the summer season. But in light of the shots fired in the parking lot of the last public pool opening, some are worried about safety.
The city of Columbia Aquatic Manager, Janel Twehous told KOMU yesterday that she's not concerned with the pool openings today. She said the incident that happened at the Albert-Oakland Aquatic Center on Monday was an isolated incident that did not involve anyone who was at the pool deck. She said Parks and Rec will not be doing anything different in today's pool openings. The Columbia "Silence the Violence" group will make appearances at all three pool openings today.
The Lake of the Woods pool will be open today from 12 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Douglass Family Aquatic Center will be open today from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and the Little Mates Cove at the Twins Lake Recreation Area will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Columbia Parks and Recreation will hold multiple events at these outdoor pools throughout the summer including litter swimmers playtime, family nights on Fridays and designated adult lap times.
More pool schedules are available online at the Parks and Recreation website.
