JEFFERSON CITY - Two stores face liquor license suspensions after compliance checks were conducted on March 12.

The liquor control board met Friday after Xpress Liquor and Smokes on Ellis Boulevard and Break Time on Clark Street failed compliance checks. Both were caught selling alcohol to a minor.

Both stores face liquor license suspensions.

Debbie Hartley, business license administrator, said state funding for compliance checks was cut so the city has not conducted many compliance checks in the last few years.

She said she wishes the city could conduct more.

"Without many compliance checks, it's hard to see if businesses are in compliance with the law," Hartley said.

Hartley said she believes more compliance checks will take place in the upcoming weeks.
