Westwood Avenue Tree Removal Stopped
COLUMBIA - Residents in Columbia's Old Southwest neighborhood successfully petitoned the city to delay removing six sugar trees from from the areas sidewalks.
The city said the trees should be removed because they were a maintenance issue. The trees push through curbs and sidewalks and make the sidewalks uneven.
However, the local residents said the trees are endearing to the city.
The city was supposed to tear down the trees Monday, but it has been postponed to an unannounced later date.
