Sunday's system and impacts on mid-Missouri travel
A LOT CAN/WILL CHANGE for Sunday's forecast...a rain/snow system appears possible for central Missouri, beginning sometime in the afternoon as rain. This system is expected to bring a cold front, causing temps to drop from the 40s in the morning into the 30s (near freezing) in the evening. For now, accumulating snow is possible north of I-70 Sunday, more likely near the Iowa/Missouri border. Warm road temps from the mild holiday weekend will help melt snowfall on mid-Missouri roads Estimates for snow accumulation are not known at this time, but are expected to be mainly on grassy, elevated and insulated surfaces.
Winds are also expected to be very windy in this strong, developing low pressure system that tracks across Missouri. Winds could frequently gust up to 45-50 mph, leading to reduced visibility regardless if precipitation is rain or snow from Sunday afternoon - Monday morning.
Reminder, Sunday is a major travel day for Mizzou students and locals alike returning from Thanksgiving break and with weather hazards in the forecast, extra time should be planned into any late-weekend travel.
